How to solve the clogging problem in MBBR? Read it and you'll understand it all!
Why do MBBR fillers accumulate and become clogged?
Generally speaking, to prevent the loss of filler and considering the size of the filler, a grille with a smaller aperture is set at the overwater and outlet ends of each section. In this way, it is easy to suspend sludge and filler to paste, resulting in water not flowing away normally and clogging. Once the grating at the overflow is clogged, when the water level rises to overflow, the filler will be lost into the subsequent pipeline. Whether it is the sludge return pipeline or mixture return pipeline, sedimentation tank pipeline, and so on will be filled with filler blocked to death, and the whole system has to stop running, and is on the verge of collapse.
The main reasons are:
1. Excessive flow rate:
If the water flow rate is too high, it may cause the filler to move too much in the reactor, which in turn may cause buildup. A proper flow rate ensures that the packing is evenly distributed and avoids localized buildup.
2. Excessive Biofilm:
Biofilm forms on the surface of the packing material in MBBR systems and is used to treat organic matter in wastewater. When the biofilm is too thick, it may increase adhesion between the fillers and lead to buildup. Regular system cleaning and maintenance can help control biofilm thickness.
3. Packing Overload:
If the amount of packing in a reactor exceeds the design capacity, packing buildup may result. A proper amount of packing ensures that there is enough space between each packer for effective water exchange.
4. Poorly designed inlet or outlet:
If the inlet or outlet is not properly designed, it may result in an uneven distribution of water flow through the reactor, which can lead to packing buildup in certain areas

How to avoid MBBR filler buildup?
1. Try to disperse the bottom aeration device evenly, and appropriately increase the aeration head and aeration volume in the corners and edges, which will reduce the area with dead space.
2. Appropriately increase the amount of MBBR filler, on the basis of the theoretical dosage plus the number of volume of the pile-up part, so that the total number of suspended carriers to reach the theoretical value.
3. Adding propellers to the stacked area is not recommended.
How to solve the problem of mbbr Media blockage?
1. Installation of aeration or blowback device.
Setting an aeration device at the grid can effectively prevent the grid from clogging so that once there is suspended sludge or filler at the grid, it will also be blown away to avoid its clogging.
In the mixed liquid back to set up blowback device is also an effective measure to prevent the grid clogging. In actual operation, the grid at the return of mixed liquid is often clogged.
Of course, if the design of the initial stage did not take into account the design of the blowback device, you can manually blowback, although each time the clogging has to manually blowback, bringing a certain amount of workload to the staff, and each time to dismantle the pump to install the pump is also very inconvenient, but the problem can be effectively solved. Setting up automatic cleaning device: A regular automatic cleaning device can also avoid the grille clogging.
2. Add mesh fence to intercept.
The filler will be covered with the grid as a whole, and even if the blockage will not cause the loss of filler, there is no problem of filler entering the pipeline to cause pipeline blockage, the system recovery will also be quickly recovered, as long as the blocked grill is cleared, the system can operate normally.
3. Add a liquid level meter.
Installation of a high liquid level meter in each pool, a grille blockage is bound to rise in water level, when the water level rises to a high level when the system stops feeding water, which can prevent the water level from overflowing, loss of filler so that the pipeline is blocked. In this way, after manually cleaning the blocked grating, the system can immediately return to normal operation.
Among the above measures, adding mesh fence interception and installation of a liquid level meter can not fundamentally solve the problem of grille clogging, but only prevent the loss of filler caused by loss of filler and pipeline clogging, reduce the workload of the staff, and can make the system immediately return to normal operation.
Setting aeration and backblowing or automatic cleaning device at the grille can greatly reduce the probability of grille clogging, of course, we can consider combining them to ensure that nothing is wrong.
