Biological Rope Media
The water treatment principle of biological rope media also falls under the biofilm method, primarily relying on microbial biofilms immobilized on the carrier surface to degrade organic pollutants.
Structure of Biological Rope Media
Biological rope media is woven using a serpentine braided method that combines elastic and soft fillers. Its numerous looped fiber structures form a radial configuration, significantly increasing its surface area. The unique elasticity of the material effectively cuts bubbles, enhancing oxygen utilization efficiency. The radial structure formed by the integration of elastic and soft fillers increases the media’s porosity, facilitating efficient mass transfer among solid, liquid, and gas phases. The distinctive looped structure also prevents excessive biofilm sloughing caused by hydraulic shear forces.

Working Principle of Biological Rope Media
Microorganisms attached to the surface of the biological rope media interact with wastewater, oxidizing and decomposing organic pollutants to achieve water purification.Near the center of the rope, dissolved oxygen levels decrease, creating anaerobic conditions. Here, microorganisms consume nitrate nitrogen in the water, enabling denitrification.
Due to these mechanisms, even when influent loads fluctuate, the self-regulating microbial communities on the biological rope maintain stable treatment efficiency.

Application in River Water Purification
Biological rope media enhances river purification by amplifying natural self-purification processes.Similar to sand, gravel, and aquatic plants in riverbeds, the microbial biofilms on the rope surface decompose organic pollutants through oxidation.
Installing biological rope media in water bodies promotes the growth of dense microbial populations, boosting their capacity to break down contaminants. These microorganisms also serve as food for annelids, tubifex worms, and ultimately fish, forming a food chain that suppresses sludge accumulation.
Installation Methods for Biological Rope Media
1.Media Frame Layout:
The frame is arranged with vertical and horizontal spacingb(100–200 mm).
Thus,25–100 meters of braided media can be installed per cubic meter(1 m³)of the frame.
2.Fixing Method:
PP/PE cable ties are used to directly secure the media to the frame.
The rope-shaped biological media does not require cutting and can be fixed along the frame at intervals of 100–200 mm.
3.Configuration in Aeration Tanks:
Split-Flow Configuration:Media is installed on one side of the tank, with aeration on the opposite side.
Sufficient hydraulic flow space must be reserved above and below the media;aeration deflectors may be added if necessary.
